ICLEI Africa (2015)

To aid in the transition to low emission development, ICLEI Africa identified the need to understand the opportunities for the greening of municipal infrastructure and the implementation and financing of green infrastructure in municipalities in South Africa. This project focused on the Saldanha Bay Municipality, as a case study, to understand the key greening challenges and opportunities in a growing secondary city. The process engaged experts and stakeholders at the provincial, municipal and national government spheres and in academia. This project’s output frames the current municipal and infrastructure grant context in relation to green infrastructure. This forms the foundation of making a case for green infrastructure and the greening of existing infrastructure in Saldanha Bay Municipality and in other municipalities across South Africa.
